Heston has arrived!

We are working on getting all of our pictures so far of Heston's birth on our website at http://www.hhhtoombs.shutterfly.com/

It all happened Friday, August 29, 2008. After labor pains all day on Thursday and Friday morning I went to the Dr at noon on Friday. I was dilated to a four and Dr. Allison could feel Heston's head. We were told to go straight to the hospital. We were so excited that it was FINALLY here!
After arriving at the hospital I was in hard core labor by 3pm. Thank God for my husband! He has got to be the best coach ever. I'm thinking maybe I should hire him out to all my pregger friends for when they are in labor... I could not have done it without him.
We learned upon arrival that I was not in the computer system, which meant we had a lot of paper work and lab work to do. I had already registered a month prior so I could have my epidural upon arrival, but no such luck.
By the time I got my epidural I was dilated to a 7 and trying hard to not let the "Hawkins temper" get the best of me. I wanted to kiss the 60 year old nurse anesthetist that gave me my epidural. I was in Heaven. I could just feel my body sink into the bed and didn't even feel my contractions. JR and my mom would see the monitor spike and say, "Oh, that was a good one" while I was off in space just enjoying my numb body.
It came time for supper and everyone went off to the cafeteria because the nurse had just checked me and I was still a 7 and my water still had not ruptured. While they were gone my Dr came by to break my water and in about two minutes I was complaining of pressure and wishing like heck I could reach my phone to call Hunter. Next thing I knew my Dr got excited and said, "ok, we are going to have a baby now." I was thrilled to hear Hunter's voice in the hall as I was asking if I could push. It all came together and my mom, Grace, and Hunter joined me by the bed to give me a little pep talk as I began to cry not really wanting to push through the pain but knowing I had no choice. I have to admit I am proud to say after ELEVEN...thats right eleven minutes of pushing I saw the most beautiful little boy I had ever seen. He was crying and healthy, what more could a momma ask for.
I want to give God praise and just say that a few things took place that could have turned out bad. We had a lot of people praying for us and we want to thank you. God heard your prayers and had favor upon us during the delivery.
When my water broke Heston's heart dropped really low. Nurses started grabbing for this and that and running around putting different things on my face for me to inhale like O2 and something else. (That is when my Dr rushed back into the room after breaking my water only to realize I was ready to push.) Then as Heston was coming out he got stuck because his hand was above his head and his umbilical chord was wrapped around him several times. I remember the room getting very silent and Hunter repeating, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" but I wasn't aware of exactly what was going on. Dr Allison was quick to take the proper actions and Heston was screaming and healthy in no time. We give God all the praise and are so thankful for such an awesome support group and just want to say thank you again for all of your thoughts and prayers.
We are just overwhelmed with joy and love in our hearts with Heston's arrival. Our family now feels complete. Haven Marie is overjoyed with her little brother too. We had an Olympic award ceremony for Haven at the hospital. LaLa presented her with a gold metal for being the best big sister in the world. She is proud of her metal and it taking her role as big sister very seriously.

Haley,
I got this e-mail from your mom telling of your new arrival and a link to the blog. Congratulations! You all look so happy and I can't believe how much Haven has grown. I miss her coming into my office so I can load her down with Happy Meal toys and stickers (annoying JR to no end!!) Anyway, I am very happy for you. I will check back to see more pictures later. Enjoy your sweet family!
